Grab Bars
Grab bars from 12 to 42 inches, L-shaped and soft grip options, with professional installation available separately.
A grab bar is the cheapest and most effective piece of equipment you can put in a bathroom. Most bathroom falls happen at a predictable moment: standing up from the toilet, stepping over the tub wall, or turning in the shower. A properly fixed bar at the right place gives something solid to hold at exactly that moment.
It has to be fixed into structure
This is the part that matters more than which bar you buy. A grab bar is only as strong as what it is screwed into.
Fixed into a wall stud or solid blocking, a bar will hold a person's full weight in a fall. Fixed into drywall with plastic anchors, it will pull out, and it will pull out at the precise moment someone is relying on it. A bar that fails is worse than no bar at all, because the person has already committed their weight to it.
If you are not certain what is behind your bathroom wall, do not guess. We install grab bars and we find the structure first.
Delivery and installation are extra
The prices shown here are for the bar itself. Delivery and installation are quoted separately, because both depend on where you are and what your walls are made of.
Installation is available as a service and is worth considering even for a confident DIYer, since the difficulty is not the drilling but knowing whether the fixing is sound.
Choosing a length
Shorter bars, 12 to 18 inches, suit a fixed handhold at a single point, such as beside the toilet or at the shower entrance.
Longer bars, 24 to 42 inches, suit a movement rather than a point: standing and then stepping, or moving along the length of a tub. If someone needs support through a whole sequence rather than at one spot, longer is better.
An L-shaped bar covers both a vertical pull-up and a horizontal steadying hold in one fitting, which often suits a shower.
Where drilling is not possible
In a rental, a condo, or on tile that cannot be drilled, a suction rail gives a temporary handhold. It is not a substitute for a fixed bar and must never be relied on to take full body weight, but it is better than nothing where a fixed bar is not permitted.
Not sure where they should go
Tell us how the person moves around the bathroom and where they feel unsteady. Bar placement matters as much as bar length, and we would rather work that out with you than have you fit one in the wrong place.
