Lift Chairs
Power recliners that rise to help you stand, in 2-position, 3-position and infinite position models.
A lift chair is a recliner whose seat tilts forward and rises, bringing you close to standing before you take your own weight. Press a button and the chair does the hardest part for you.
For someone who can walk but struggles to get out of a chair, it is often the single piece of equipment that keeps them in their own living room rather than being helped up a dozen times a day.
Positions are the thing to understand
This is what separates the models, and the price.
A 2-position chair sits upright and reclines slightly, for watching television. It rises to standing, which is the main point.
A 3-position chair adds a near-flat recline, so it can be napped in comfortably.
An infinite position chair has separate motors for the back and the footrest, so they move independently. That allows the Trendelenburg position, feet above the heart, which helps with swelling in the legs, and a genuine full-flat position for sleeping in the chair.
If someone is sleeping in their chair rather than going to bed, which is common with breathing or heart conditions, infinite position is worth the difference.
Sizing is not optional
A lift chair has to fit the person. Too deep and they cannot get their back against the backrest, so they slide forward. Too tall and their feet dangle. Too wide and there is nothing to push against.
Height, weight and seat-to-floor measurement all matter, and chairs come in small, medium, large and bariatric. Come in and sit in one.
Before it arrives
Measure the doorway and the space behind the chair. Most need clearance to recline, though some models sit close to a wall. Check there is a power outlet where the chair will go.
A simpler option
If the difficulty is mild, a seat assist cushion lifts you from an existing chair for a fraction of the cost. Ask us before assuming a full chair is needed.
