Spinal Cord Injury Ontario
Equipment access programs, advocacy, and service navigation.
Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (SCIO) provides vital support to individuals living with spinal cord injuries by helping them access essential mobility and medical equipment. Through advocacy, service navigation, and community-driven initiatives, SCIO works to bridge the gaps left by traditional funding programs like ADP.
Devices supported or advocated for include
- Manual and power wheelchairs
- Standing wheelchairs
- Floor and ceiling lifts
- Therapeutic support surfaces (pressure-management beds)
- Bathroom safety equipment
- Transfer aids and seat-elevating devices
SCIO also operates platforms like the Possibilities Project Plus and SCIO Marketplace, where individuals can find, buy, sell, or donate mobility equipment. Their Service Navigation team helps clients identify funding sources and navigate the application process, ensuring access to the tools needed for independence and safety.
