Genesis Three Position Lift Chair
A three position power lift recliner covering upright, television recline and a near-flat nap.
Why this one
Three useful positions
Upright, a television recline and a near-flat nap position, which covers what most people actually use.
The lift is the point
The seat tilts forward and rises so you take your own weight for the last part of standing.
Better value for most
Costs less than an infinite position chair, and most owners settle on two or three positions anyway.
Linked movement
Back and footrest are linked, so feet cannot be raised above the heart independently.
When to spend more
Choose infinite position instead if the person sleeps in the chair or needs feet above the heart.
Fit matters
Seat depth matters most: too deep and you slide forward, too tall and your feet dangle.
About this product
The Genesis is a three position power lift recliner: upright, a comfortable television recline, and a near-flat position for napping.
What three position means
The back and footrest are linked, so they move together through three set positions. That is different from an infinite position chair, where separate motors let them move independently.
For most people, three positions is all they use. You sit upright to eat or talk, recline partway to watch television, and go back further to doze. A chair with infinite adjustment gives you more options, and plenty of owners settle on two or three of them anyway.
The lift is the point
Whatever the recline does, the chair is bought because standing up has become hard. The seat tilts forward and rises, bringing you close to standing so you take your own weight for the last part.
For someone who walks reasonably well but cannot get out of a low chair, that single function is what keeps them in their own living room instead of calling for help a dozen times a day.
When to spend more
Choose an infinite position chair instead if the person sleeps in the chair rather than going to bed, or needs their feet above their heart for leg swelling. Neither is possible on a linked three position chair.
Otherwise this does the job for less.
Size it to the person
Seat depth matters most. Too deep and they cannot get their back against the backrest, so they slide forward and lose the support. Too tall and their feet dangle rather than resting flat.
Height, weight and the distance from the back of the knee to the floor all decide the size. Come in and sit in one, since this is obvious in a minute and impossible from a photograph.
Before delivery
Measure the doorway and the clearance behind the chair, and check there is a power outlet where it will go.
