Mercury Lift Chair, Black

A power lift recliner in black, which looks like an ordinary armchair rather than medical equipment.

Features & Benefits

Why this one

The lift is the point

The seat tilts forward and rises so you take your own weight for the last part of standing.

Safer standing

Removes the moment at which a great many falls happen, getting up out of a low chair.

Looks like furniture

Black reads as an ordinary armchair rather than medical equipment in the middle of a living room.

Acceptance matters

A chair nobody will have in the house helps nobody, so appearance is worth caring about.

When to spend more

For sleeping in the chair or feet above the heart, choose a model with independent motors.

Fit matters

Seat depth matters most: too deep and you slide forward, too tall and your feet dangle.

About this product

The Mercury is a power lift recliner in black.

What it does

Press the button and the seat tilts forward and rises, bringing you close to standing so you take your own weight for the last part. Then it reclines for sitting comfortably.

That lift function is why people buy a chair like this. For someone who walks reasonably well but cannot get out of a low armchair, it removes the moment at which a great many falls happen, and it means not calling for help a dozen times a day.

Black, which is worth mentioning

Most lift chairs come in the beiges and browns that say clearly what they are. Black reads as an ordinary armchair, which matters when the chair sits in the middle of a living room and someone has to accept it being there.

A chair nobody will have in the house helps nobody, and appearance is a perfectly reasonable thing to care about.

Choosing between our chairs

Two questions settle it. Does the person sleep in the chair rather than going to bed? Do they need their feet above their heart for leg swelling?

If either is yes, they need a chair with independent motors, such as the Neptune or an infinite position model. If neither applies, a simpler chair does the job for less.

And if the difficulty is mild, an Uplift Seat Assist lifts you from your own armchair for a fraction of the price.

Size it to the person

Seat depth matters most. Too deep and they cannot get their back against the backrest, so they slide forward and lose the support. Too tall and their feet dangle rather than resting flat.

Height, weight and the distance from the back of the knee to the floor decide the size. Come in and sit in it.

Before delivery

Measure the doorway and the clearance behind the chair, and check there is a power outlet where it will go.
