Features & Benefits

Why this one

Supports a movement

Long enough to keep hold while the body moves, rather than letting go partway through a transfer.

For bath transfers

Suits getting out of a bath, where standing, turning, stepping over and down are four separate actions.

Spans two studs

At 24 inches the bar will usually span two studs at 16 inch centres, the strongest possible fixing.

Fixing is everything

Only as strong as its fixing. Into studs it holds full body weight, into drywall anchors it will pull out.

About this product

A 24 inch grab bar. This is the length at which a bar stops being a handhold at one point and starts supporting a movement.

Support through a sequence

Getting out of a bath is not one action. It is standing, then turning, then lifting a leg over, then stepping down. A short bar means letting go partway through, usually at the least stable moment.

Twenty-four inches lets someone keep hold while their body moves, sliding their grip along rather than releasing and reaching again. For anyone whose balance is poor during transitions rather than when standing still, that is the difference that matters.

Where it suits

Along the length of a bathtub, horizontally in a shower, or diagonally where someone rises and then moves. Also beside a bed or a chair where the person stands and then walks.

Fixing it properly

A grab bar is only as strong as what it is screwed into. Into wall studs or solid blocking it will hold a person's full weight in a fall. Into drywall with plastic anchors it will pull out, at the moment someone has already committed their weight to it.

At 24 inches the bar will usually span two studs at 16 inch centres, which is the strongest possible mounting. That is a real advantage of this length and worth weighing against a shorter bar.

Delivery and installation

The price shown is for the bar only. Delivery and installation are quoted separately, since both depend on where you are and what your walls are made of. Installation is available as a service, and on a bar this length the fixing is what determines whether it is safe.
