Grab Bar 16"
A 16 inch bar, often able to reach two studs for the strongest fixing while still suiting a confined space.
Why this one
More forgiving than 12 inch
Long enough to shift your grip a little, so it forgives a hand that lands slightly high or low.
May reach two studs
Studs are commonly 16 inches apart, so this length can often reach two of them, which is the strongest fixing.
Versatile placement
Suits a toilet, a shower entrance, or a vertical hold beside a step or doorway.
Fixing is everything
Only as strong as its fixing. Into a stud it holds full body weight, into drywall anchors it will pull out.
About this product
A 16 inch grab bar. Slightly longer than the shortest bars, which makes it easier to fix properly while still fitting in a confined space.
Where it suits
Beside a toilet for pushing up from, at a shower entrance, or vertically beside a step or doorway. Sixteen inches is enough length to move your grip along a little, so it forgives a hand that lands slightly high or low, which a 12 inch bar does not.
A practical advantage over shorter bars
Wall studs in most Canadian homes are 16 inches apart on centre. A 16 inch bar can therefore often be fixed into two studs, which is the strongest possible mounting and avoids adding blocking behind the wall.
That is worth knowing before you choose a length. A slightly longer bar that reaches solid structure is far better than a shorter one fixed into drywall.
Fixing it properly
A grab bar is only as strong as what it is screwed into. Into a stud or solid blocking it will hold a person's full weight. Into drywall anchors it will pull out, at the moment someone has already committed their weight to it.
If you are not certain what is behind the wall, do not guess. We find the structure first.
Delivery and installation
The price shown is for the bar only. Delivery and installation are quoted separately, since both depend on where you are and what your walls are made of. Installation is available as a service.
