Soft Grip Grab Bar 18"
An 18 inch bar with a soft grip surface, easier to hold with arthritic, wet or cold hands.
Why this one
Easier on arthritic hands
A softer textured surface gives purchase with less grip force, which suits arthritic hands.
Better grip when wet
Holds better than bare metal when hands are wet and soapy, which is exactly when a bar is used.
Not cold to touch
Not cold to grab in an unheated bathroom, removing a small deterrent that stops equipment being used.
Practical middle length
A useful middle length for beside a toilet or at a shower entrance, often able to reach two studs.
About this product
An 18 inch grab bar with a soft grip surface rather than bare metal.
Who the soft grip is for
Arthritic hands, above all. A bare metal bar needs a firm grip to feel secure, and gripping firmly is exactly what arthritic fingers struggle with. A softer textured surface gives purchase with far less grip force.
It also holds better when hands are wet and soapy, which is precisely when a bar is being used, and it is not unpleasantly cold to grab in an unheated bathroom first thing in the morning. Small deterrents like that are a real reason equipment stops being used.
Why 18 inches
A useful middle length. Long enough to move your grip along while rising, short enough to fit most places a bar is needed, and commonly used beside a toilet or at a shower entrance.
If the support is needed through a longer movement, such as getting out of a bath, the 24 inch soft grip is the better choice.
Fixing it properly
A grab bar is only as strong as what it is screwed into. Into a stud or solid blocking it holds a person's full weight. Into drywall with plastic anchors it will pull out, at the moment someone has already committed their weight to it.
Studs are commonly 16 inches apart, so an 18 inch bar can often reach two, depending on where it needs to go.
Delivery and installation
The price shown is for the bar only. Delivery and installation are quoted separately, since both depend on where you are and what your walls are made of. Installation is available as a service.
