Zippie TS Children's Tilt Wheelchair

The original paediatric tilt-in-space wheelchair, with 45 degrees of tilt, up to 5 inches of depth growth and the widest option range in its category.

Features & Benefits

Why this one

45 degree fixed pivot

Tilts 45 degrees at a traditional fixed pivot point, a long proven mechanism paired with the widest option list in the category.

Five inches of growth

Up to 5 inches of seat depth growth and 2 inches of width, and depth is usually what runs out first as a child's legs lengthen.

Foot release actuator

A foot release actuator operates the tilt with no exposed cables, so there is nothing to snag or tangle during daily handling.

Adjustable tilt range

The base adjusts so the whole 45 degree range shifts 5 degrees forward or back, matching the range to how the child actually sits.

Mechanical tilt locks

One or two mechanical tilt locks can be specified, so the chosen position is held securely rather than relying on the operator.

Rigid or folding

A rigid frame for efficiency and durability, or a folding frame that compresses for a car boot or a tight storage cupboard.

Z-finity footplates

The optional Z-finity footplate adjusts infinitely along its rotational arc, so feet stay supported as leg length and tone change.

Built for daily use

A high strength aircraft grade aluminum frame and heavy duty castors handle daily transitions between classroom, vehicle and pavement.

About this product

The Zippie TS is the original paediatric tilt-in-space chair and still the one with the widest range of options in the category. It tilts through 45 degrees, and unlike its sibling the Zippie IRIS it uses a traditional fixed pivot point rather than rotating about the child's centre of gravity.

That difference is worth understanding when choosing between them. A fixed pivot is simpler and long proven, and the TS pairs it with an unusually wide option list. Rotation in space, on the IRIS, keeps the wheelbase shorter and makes tilting lighter to operate. Neither is better in the abstract, and which suits depends on the child, the seating and who will be doing the tilting.

Growth

The TS grows up to 2 inches in seat width and up to 5 inches in seat depth. Five inches of depth growth is a lot, and depth is usually what runs out first as a child's legs lengthen, so this is the adjustment that tends to decide how many years a chair lasts.

Tilting it

Tilt is operated by a foot release actuator with no exposed cables, so there is nothing to snag or tangle, which matters on a chair being loaded in and out of vehicles daily. One or two mechanical tilt locks can be specified. The base itself adjusts, letting the whole 45 degree range be shifted 5 degrees forward or back to suit how the child actually sits.

Frames and options

A rigid frame gives efficiency and durability; a folding frame compresses for a car boot or a tight cupboard. The optional Z-finity footplate adjusts infinitely along its rotational arc, and a large selection of footrest and armrest styles is available, along with compatibility with most seating and positioning systems.
