Features & Benefits

Why this one

Two tilt versions

The Capella 20 tilts 20 degrees and sits lower, while the Capella 45 tilts 45 degrees and carries more weight. The choice depends on why the chair is needed.

Low seat height

The 20 degree version comes down to 11 and three quarter inches at the front, low enough to foot propel or get under a table.

350 lbs on the 45

The 45 degree version carries up to 350 lbs, against 250 lbs on the 20, so a higher capacity does not mean a different chair.

Power tilt available

Power tilt is available on the Capella 45, so the user can reposition themselves rather than wait for a caregiver.

Wide sizing range

Seat widths from 16 to 24 inches and depths from 15 to 20 inches, covering a wide range from one frame.

Back angle adjustment

Back angle sets at -7, 0, 7, 14 or 21 degrees, so the backrest matches the person's posture rather than the frame's default.

Seating system included

An adjustable seating system comes as standard rather than being quoted separately, alongside a choice of arm styles and front riggings.

Made in Mississauga

At 40 lbs it is lighter than many tilt frames, and it is designed and built in Mississauga so parts and service are close at hand.

About this product

The Capella is Future Mobility's tilt chair for people with mobility or neurological disabilities, built in Mississauga. It comes in two forms, and the choice between them is the main decision.

The Capella 20 offers 20 degrees of tilt and sits lower, from 11 and three quarter inches at the front. The Capella 45 tilts through 45 degrees and carries more weight, up to 350 lbs against 250. Power tilt is available on the 45.

Which one, and why

Twenty degrees is enough for regular small weight shifts and for improving comfort and line of sight, and the lower seat height that comes with it helps someone propel with their feet or get under a table. Forty-five degrees is what you need for genuine pressure relief, taking most of the load off the sitting bones for someone who cannot shift at all. If skin protection is the reason for the chair, the 45 is usually the answer. If posture, comfort and access matter more and the person can still shift a little, the 20 may suit better and sits lower.

Fit

Seat widths run from 16 to 24 inches and depths from 15 to 20 inches, with back angle adjustment at -7, 0, 7, 14 and 21 degrees. An adjustable seating system comes as standard rather than being specified separately, and a range of arm styles and front riggings is available. At 40 lbs the chair is lighter than many tilt frames.
