Raz-CAT Compact Tilting Shower Commode Chair
The compact version of the Raz-AT, for children and smaller adults, with a depth-adjustable back that follows growth.
Why this one
Sized for smaller users
Built for children, adolescents and smaller adults, rather than an adult chair padded out to fit a smaller body.
Still fits over a toilet
The base and seat frames stay 18 inches wide, deliberately, so the chair can still be positioned over a standard toilet.
Shorter base frame
The base frame is 3 inches shorter than the Raz-AT, making the chair noticeably easier to turn in a small bathroom.
Adjusts as they grow
A depth-adjustable back gives 12 to 15 inches, or up to 17 with the seat overhanging, so the chair is re-set as a child grows.
Three back widths
Back frames available in 14, 16 and 18 inch widths, so the support matches the child rather than the frame size.
40 degrees of tilt
A 40 degree tilt range for pressure relief and head control, with locking gas struts assisting the return to upright.
Built for transfers
Four dual-locking 5 inch castors and flip-up padded arm supports, so the chair holds still for sideways transfers.
Paediatric headrest
A stainless steel frame and headrest fixture with a small moulded pad, sized for a smaller head and neck.
About this product
The Raz-CAT is the compact version of the Raz-AT, built for children, adolescents and smaller adults. It keeps the same tilt and the same positioning system, but on a frame sized to a smaller body.
Why a smaller chair rather than a smaller seat
Fitting a child into an adult shower commode by adding padding does not work. If the seat is too deep the child slides forward, the commode aperture ends up in the wrong place, and the whole routine becomes a struggle. The CAT reduces the seat frame depth and offers a depth-adjustable back giving 12 to 15 inches, or up to 17 inches with the seat overhanging, so the fit is correct rather than compensated for.
It still fits over a toilet
The base and seat frames stay 18 inches wide, the same as the Raz-AT, specifically so the chair can still be positioned over a standard toilet. That is a deliberate design decision: making the chair narrower would have made it useless for toileting.
What did change is the base frame, shortened by 3 inches, which makes the chair noticeably easier to turn in a small bathroom.
Growth
The depth-adjustable back is the feature that matters most for a child. It allows the chair to be re-set as they grow rather than replaced, and back frames can be ordered in 14, 16 and 18 inch widths. For equipment at this price, in a category where children outgrow things quickly, growth capability is central rather than a bonus.
Tilt and support
A 40 degree tilt range for pressure relief and head control, locking gas struts to assist the return to upright, adjustable back angle, four dual-locking 5 inch castors, a stainless steel headrest fixture with a small moulded pad, footrests, flip-up padded arm supports and a commode pan.
