Features & Benefits

Why this one

Adjustable axle plate

The adjustable axle plate lets centre of gravity be tuned to the person, which is the main thing separating this chair from the simpler QX.

Rapid adjustment

Centre of gravity, seat to floor height, camber and wheel spacing each adjust in under a minute, with no need to strip the chair down.

One tool for everything

Almost every adjustment on the chair is made with a single 10 mm hex wrench, which makes servicing simpler and less error prone.

Hydro-formed frame

A hydro-formed aluminum frame balances strength against weight, coming in around 28.8 lbs while still folding for transport.

Folds for transport

A compact folding cross-brace lets a Type 3 chair collapse for the car, which rigid frames in the same class cannot do.

Caster options

Both caster forks and caster stems are offered, giving more ways to reach the seat to floor height the person actually needs.

Easy-release hangers

Footrest hangers use an ergonomic release lever designed for people with limited hand dexterity, which makes daily use easier.

Camber choice

Camber can be set at 0 or 3 degrees on the adjustable plate, trading a wider, more stable stance against a narrower footprint indoors.

About this product

The Quickie QXi is the adjustable half of Sunrise Medical's QX pair. Both are folding aluminum chairs built on the same idea, but where the QX runs a fixed axle plate at zero camber, the QXi adds an adjustable axle plate and a longer list of options. That axle plate is what moves it from Type 2 into Type 3 territory, because it lets the centre of gravity be tuned to the person.

Moving the rear axle forward makes the chair markedly easier to push and turn, at the cost of rearward stability. For someone propelling all day, getting that balance right is not a refinement, it is the difference between a chair that saves the shoulders and one that wears them out. It is also why this is set by a therapist rather than at home.

Built to be serviced

The QXi is unusually easy to work on. Almost every adjustment is made with a single 10 mm hex wrench, and the rapid adjust axle plate handles centre of gravity, seat to floor height, camber and wheel spacing, each in under a minute without stripping the chair down. For a chair that will be re-tuned over years as someone's needs change, that matters more than it sounds.
