Features & Benefits

Why this one

Lightest aluminum fold

The lightest aluminum folding frame Motion Composites makes, at a starting weight of around 13.6 lbs.

7005 T6 aluminum

A 7005 T6 alloy is stiffer and stronger than the aluminum usually used in wheelchair frames, so less material achieves the same strength.

Quarter-inch increments

The frame adjusts in quarter inch increments, finer than most chairs in this class, so the setup can be tuned precisely to the person.

Forged axle plate

A forged vertical axle plate gives precise rear wheel positioning while keeping the wheels spread for lateral stability.

Convertible armrests

Composite armrests convert between flip-back and single post and adjust for height with a finger rather than a tool.

12 to 20 inch seat height

Front seat to floor height starts at 12 inches for foot propelling and extends beyond 20 inches for a taller user.

Rigid unibody frame

A one-piece frame is stronger than a two-part assembly and needs less ongoing maintenance from the user.

Made in Canada

Designed and built in Quebec, which shortens lead times and keeps parts easier to source than an overseas frame.

About this product

The HELIO A7 is the lightest aluminum folding chair Motion Composites builds, and among the lightest aluminum folders available anywhere. The weight comes from the alloy: 7005 T6 aluminum, which is stiffer and stronger than the grades usually used in wheelchair frames, so less material is needed for the same result.

Stiffness matters as much as the weight saving. A more rigid frame absorbs less of each push, so the effort goes into moving rather than into flexing the chair. For someone propelling all day, that difference accumulates.

Adjustment is finer than most chairs in this class, in quarter inch increments rather than half inches or preset holes. The forged vertical axle plate gives precise rear wheel positioning, and the composite armrests convert between flip-back and single post and adjust for height with a finger rather than a tool.

Seat height range

The frame reaches a front seat to floor height as low as 12 inches, which lets a foot propeller get the whole foot to the floor, and extends beyond 20 inches for a tall user. One frame therefore covers a range that usually needs a choice between hemi and standard frames.

Choosing between the A7 and the A6

Both are aluminum folders with the same unibody approach. The A7 is lighter, stiffer and adjusts more finely; the A6 costs less and carries a higher maximum with its HD kit. Contact us and we can put them side by side.
