Quickie IRIS Tilt Wheelchair
A highly configurable tilt-in-space wheelchair with pre-set tilt ranges chosen to suit the person, True Fit growth and capacity to 400 lbs.
Why this one
Up to 60 degrees tilt
Ordered with a pre-set tilt range, either a 55 degree span reaching up to 60 degrees, or a 40 degree span, chosen to suit the person.
Tilt range set to suit
The starting angle is chosen too, from -5 degrees for forward assistance to +5 degrees for someone who never sits fully upright.
True Fit growth
Built on Sunrise's True Fit growth system, with a width adjusting system covering 14 to 21 inches and growth to 22 inches.
300 or 400 lb capacity
The standard frame carries 300 lbs and the Heavy Duty package raises that to 400 lbs, with 23 and 24 inch widths available.
Cable-free foot release
A foot release operates the tilt with no cables at all, or a dual trigger cable release can be fitted to the backrest for an attendant.
Power tilt option
Power tilt is available with both attendant and user controls, mounting to either armrest, so the user can reposition themselves.
Complex seating options
A vent and battery tray base, a contracture seat frame and a reverse configuration are all available for complex seating needs.
Transit and JAY seating
A WC-19 transit option is available, and the chair takes JAY cushions and made to order JAY Surefit and JAY Fit seating.
About this product
The Quickie IRIS is Sunrise Medical's tilt-in-space chair, and it is the most configurable tilt chair in their manual range. Where most tilt chairs offer one tilt range, the IRIS is ordered with a pre-set range chosen to suit the person: a 55 degree range or a 40 degree range, each with a choice of where that range starts.
That choice matters more than it first appears. A range starting at -5 degrees gives some forward tilt, useful for someone who needs help getting forward to stand or transfer. A range starting at +5 degrees begins already slightly reclined, which suits someone who never sits fully upright. Setting the range to the person means the whole of it is usable, rather than half of it being angles they will never sit at.
Growth and width
The IRIS is built on Sunrise's True Fit growth system, and a width adjusting system is available covering 14 to 21 inches with growth to 22 inches. Frame widths run from 14 to 22 inches as standard, with 23 and 24 inch options on the heavy duty package. A chair that grows in width is unusual in an adult tilt chair and useful where someone's size may change.
Capacity and configuration
The standard frame carries 300 lbs, and the Heavy Duty package raises that to 400 lbs. Beyond that, the chair can be ordered with a vent and battery tray base for someone on respiratory support, a contracture seat frame where hips and knees will not extend, or in reverse configuration. These are not small options, and they are the reason this chair suits complex seating cases.
