Quickie Access Tilt Wheelchair
A manual tilt wheelchair that pivots at the knee, keeping the feet stable through the tilt, with a low seat for foot propelling and table access.
Why this one
Knee pivot tilt
The chair pivots at the knee rather than under the seat, which keeps the feet stable relative to the floor throughout the tilt.
Less to trigger tone
Because the legs do not swing through an arc as the chair tilts, there is less to provoke a spasm or pull on tight hamstrings.
Low seat height
A low seat to floor height lets someone propel with their feet properly, and gets their knees under a table, a desk or a workbench.
Takes other seating
It takes aftermarket cushions, backrests and lateral supports, so seating that already works for someone can usually move with them.
About this product
The Quickie Access is a manual tilt chair built around a different idea from most. Where the Quickie IRIS rotates the seat about the user's centre of gravity, the Access pivots at the knee. That single design choice is what the chair is for, and it suits a particular kind of user.
Why the knee pivot matters
Pivoting at the knee means the feet stay put relative to the floor as the chair tilts. On a chair that pivots elsewhere, the legs swing through an arc as the seat moves, which can pull on tight hamstrings or trigger a spasm in someone whose tone is easily provoked. Keeping the feet stable through the tilt cycle avoids that, and for someone with spasticity or contracture it can be the difference between tilt being usable and being avoided.
A low seat, deliberately
The Access sits low to the floor. That does two things. It lets someone propel with their feet, reaching the floor properly rather than on tiptoe, and it puts the person at a height where they can get their knees under a table or a desk. A tilt chair that cannot fit under a table excludes its user from meals, homework and work, which is a bigger loss than it sounds.
Seating and fit
The chair takes aftermarket cushions, backrests and lateral trunk supports rather than requiring one manufacturer's seating, so a seating system already working for someone can usually move with them. Footrests, armrests and headrest all adjust. It is made for both adults and children.
Ordering
Built to the configuration agreed at assessment, usually alongside a seating assessment. Contact us to arrange one, and we can compare it against the IRIS before you decide.
