Ki Mobility Liberty Tilt Wheelchair
A tilt-in-space wheelchair in folding or rigid form, with 20 degrees of tilt and a gas strut specified to the user's weight.
Why this one
Seat height stays put
The front seat height stays the same at every tilt angle, so someone who propels with their feet can keep doing so once tilted.
Folds for a normal car
Folds to roughly the size of a standard manual wheelchair with a transport weight around 26 lbs, so an ordinary car boot will take it.
Folding or rigid frame
Available as a folding frame for transport, or a rigid frame with fewer moving parts for users and facilities that do not need folding.
Tilt range positioned
The 20 degree active range can be positioned anywhere between -7 and 27 degrees, so the useful part of the range suits the person.
Strut matched to weight
The assistive gas strut is specified from the client's weight across six settings, so tilting takes similar effort whoever is in the chair.
Reconfigures without parts
Frame width, depth, backrest height, seat height and centre of gravity reconfigure without new parts in most cases.
Takes other seating
A growing adjustable seat pan is available, and the seat can be omitted entirely so a third-party seating system can be fitted.
ADP and WC-19
ADP approved under code WM0001569, and WC-19 approved for vehicle transit when the folding backrest is specified.
About this product
The Liberty is Ki Mobility's tilt-in-space chair, and it solves a problem most tilt chairs create. Traditional tilt frames are large and rigid, do not fold, and effectively dictate that you own an adapted vehicle. The Liberty folds to roughly the size of a standard manual wheelchair, with a transport weight around 26 lbs, so it goes in an ordinary car boot. A rigid version is also made for users and facilities that do not need folding.
Built for foot propelling
The front seat to floor height stays constant no matter the tilt angle. That is the detail that makes this chair work for someone who moves themselves with their feet. On most tilt chairs the seat rises or drops as it tilts, so a person who was reaching the floor properly no longer can. Here the tilt angle can be set for pelvic stability without giving up the ability to propel.
Tilt, positioned rather than fixed
The chair offers a 20 degree active range, and that range can be positioned anywhere between -7 and 27 degrees. So it can be set 0 to 20 for most people, or -5 to 15 for someone who benefits from a little forward angle. Twenty degrees is enough for regular weight shifts, comfort and posture. If someone needs most of their weight taken off the sitting bones for skin protection, a deeper tilt chair is the better answer.
Tilt matched to the person
The assistive gas strut is not one part for every chair. Spring rate and setting are chosen from the client's weight across six combinations, and differ again depending on whether the seat is deeper or shallower than 16 inches, so tilting takes similar light effort whoever is in the chair.
Sizing and seating
Seat widths run from 14 to 22 inches and depths from 14 to 20 inches. A growing adjustable seat pan is available, and the seat can be omitted entirely for a third-party seating system. The modular design means frame width, depth, backrest height, seat height and centre of gravity can usually be reconfigured without new parts.
