Zippie X'CAPE Children's Folding Wheelchair

A folding wheelchair for children from 19 lbs, with a locking crossbrace that propels like a rigid frame, and built-in growth in width and depth.

Features & Benefits

Why this one

XLOCK crossbrace

The patented XLOCK crossbrace fully locks when the chair is open, giving efficiency close to a rigid frame while still folding for the car.

From 19 lbs

From as little as 19 lbs, so a child spends less energy on pushing and has more left for playing and keeping up with friends.

Built-in growth

Two inches of width growth in the crossbrace and three inches of depth growth in the seat rail let the chair be re-set as the child grows.

Z-finity footplates

The Z-finity footplate adjusts from half an inch above the seat pan to 21 inches below, with infinite angle adjustment for feet, ankles and knees.

One-handed folding

One-step push to lock and pull to fold, both operable with a single hand, which matters for a parent holding a child at the same time.

WC-19 transit approved

Transit approved to WC-19 for use as a seat in a vehicle with an approved tiedown and occupant restraint system, which school transport often requires.

Hanger options

Swing-in and swing-out hangers help with transfers and pulling up to tables, or fixed hangers give the lightest, most active setup.

Hundreds of colours

Frame and crossbrace colours are chosen separately, giving hundreds of combinations, so the child gets a chair they actually want to use.

About this product

The Zippie X'CAPE is Sunrise Medical's folding wheelchair for children, and the thing that sets it apart is the crossbrace. Folding chairs are easier to get in and out of a car, but they normally lose efficiency because the frame flexes as the child pushes. The patented XLOCK crossbrace locks fully when the chair is opened, so it propels closer to a rigid frame while still folding with one hand.

At as little as 19 lbs it is one of the lightest paediatric folding chairs available. For a child, that difference is not a specification, it is how much energy is left for school, play and keeping up with friends after the pushing is done.

Growing with the child

The frame is built to grow rather than be replaced. There is 2 inches of width growth in the crossbrace and 3 inches of depth growth in the seat rail, and the Z-finity footplate system adjusts from half an inch above the seat pan to 21 inches below it, with the angle adjustable through its rotational arc. In practice that means the chair can be re-set as the child grows instead of being outgrown in a year.

Configuration

Seat width and depth, hanger style, back height and seating are all specified at assessment, and the chair is available in a very wide range of frame and crossbrace colour combinations, which children usually care about a great deal. Contact us to arrange an assessment.
