Tilt Shower Commode - 20"- HPU
A tilting rehab shower commode with a 20 inch seat, for pressure relief and support through a full bathing routine.
Why this one
20 inch seat width
A 20 inch seat for a broader user, so they sit squarely rather than with pressure concentrated at the hips.
Width matters with tilt
Correct width matters more on a tilting chair, since anyone with room to move will slide when the seat reclines.
Pressure relief through tilt
Tilting moves pressure off the sitting bones during the long periods a shower and toilet routine takes.
Posture support
Holds someone who slides forward or cannot hold their head up, so a carer can use both hands to wash.
One transfer per routine
Wheeled over the toilet and into the shower, so the person transfers once rather than several times.
Aluminum frame
An aluminum frame will not corrode under daily exposure to water and soap.
About this product
The 20 inch version of our tilting rehab shower commode chair. Same tilt mechanism and same aluminum frame, with a wider seat.
Why the wider seat
Seat width should match the person, not be rounded up. Too narrow and the hips are pinched, pressure concentrates at the sides, and the person cannot sit squarely. Too wide and they slide, with nothing to brace against.
That second problem matters more on a tilting chair than a fixed one. When the seat tilts back, anyone with room to move will shift, and a person who slides sideways while reclined is harder to correct and harder to wash safely. Getting the width right is part of what makes tilt work.
What tilt is for
Showering and toileting take time, and for someone who cannot shift their own weight, sitting still on a commode aperture concentrates pressure on the tissue most likely to break down. Tilting moves that load onto the back of the chair.
It also holds someone who slides forward or cannot hold their head up, which makes washing safer and lets a carer use both hands rather than steadying the person throughout.
The whole routine in one chair
Wheeled to the bathroom, over the toilet, into the shower, dried and back. One transfer. The aluminum frame will not corrode under daily wet use.
Choosing
We also stock this chair in an 18 inch seat, and in a 20 inch self-propelled version for someone who can move themselves. Measure hip width seated, and tell us how the person sits and who is assisting.
