Herdegen Adjustable Commode Chair

A padded commode chair whose legs adjust individually, allowing an inclined seat position for hip replacement patients.

Features & Benefits

Why this one

Inclines for hip precautions

Legs adjust individually so the seat can be tilted, giving an inclined position for someone after a hip replacement.

18 to 25 inch seat height

Seat height adjusts from 18 to 25 inches, far higher than a standard commode, so the hip bends less when sitting.

Padded and waterproof

Padded waterproof seat and backrest, comfortable for longer sitting but still wipe clean.

Seat lifts off

The seat clips on and lifts off entirely, so it is cleaned properly rather than scrubbed in place.

Top or side pail access

The pail removes from the top or the side, so a carer takes it out from whichever direction the room allows.

Better finished

An epoxy-coated steel frame in hammered grey, finished to look like furniture rather than hospital equipment.

About this product

A French-made commode chair from Herdegen, with a padded waterproof seat and backrest on an epoxy-coated steel frame. It is a more comfortable and better finished chair than a basic commode, and it has one feature that makes it genuinely different.

It can be set on an incline

The legs adjust individually, so the seat can be tilted rather than kept level. That allows an inclined sitting position, which is specifically useful for someone who has had a hip replacement.

After hip surgery people are usually told not to bend the hip past 90 degrees. On a level seat, sitting down and standing up pushes past that angle. Tilting the seat forward opens the hip angle, keeping the person within their restriction while still letting them sit.

Seat height adjusts from 18 to 25 inches, which is a very wide range and reaches far higher than a standard commode. That high setting is the other half of the same answer: the higher the seat, the less the hip has to bend.

Comfort and cleaning

The seat and backrest are generously padded and waterproof, so they are comfortable for longer sitting but still wipe clean. The seat clips on and lifts off entirely for cleaning, rather than having to be scrubbed in place.

The pail removes from the top or the side, so a carer takes it out from whichever direction the room allows.
