Deluxe Bariatric Drop-Arm Commode
A reinforced bariatric commode with arms that drop away, so transfers happen sideways rather than over the armrest.
Why this one
Bariatric with drop arms
Combines a reinforced bariatric frame with arms that drop away, which is the combination most often needed.
Makes transfers possible
Lets a larger person slide across at seat level, often the only way the transfer can be done safely at all.
Protects the carer
Protects carers from the lifting that causes most back injuries, by removing the need to lift over an armrest.
Reinforced frame
The frame is built heavier throughout, staying rigid around the arm mechanism when weight shifts to one side.
About this product
A bariatric commode with drop arms. It combines a reinforced wide frame with arms that swing out of the way, which is the combination most often needed and least often available.
Why this pairing matters
Someone at a higher body weight who also cannot stand reliably faces the hardest transfer in this category. A fixed armrest means lifting a large person over it, which is unsafe for them and genuinely injurious for whoever is helping. Most back injuries among carers come from exactly this kind of transfer.
Drop arms mean the person slides sideways at seat level instead. On a bariatric frame that is not a convenience, it is often the only way the transfer can be done safely at all.
Reinforced throughout
The frame is built heavier rather than simply rated higher, which keeps it rigid when weight shifts onto one side. On a drop arm model that matters more than usual, because the arm mechanism is a natural weak point and the frame has to hold its shape around it.
Width as well as weight
Match the seat width to the person, not just the weight rating. A seat that is too narrow means the edges dig in and the aperture sits wrong, which is uncomfortable and undignified enough that people stop using it.
Using it safely
Check the arm latches positively in the raised position before anyone leans on it. Set the leg height so the feet rest flat with knees at roughly a right angle, and confirm all four legs are engaged identically.
Getting it right
Tell us the user's weight and hip width, and how they transfer. We will confirm the frame before you order.
