Shower Commode Chair (Rehab) Self Propelled
A rehab shower commode with large rear wheels and handrims, so the person moves themselves rather than being pushed.
Why this one
Self propelled
Large rear wheels with handrims let the person move themselves, rather than needing someone to push throughout.
Privacy restored
Bathing and toileting can be done alone, which for an otherwise independent person matters a great deal.
One transfer per routine
Shower, toilet and drying all happen in one chair, so the person transfers once rather than several times.
Aluminum, will not rust
An aluminum frame will not rust under daily exposure to water and soap, with locking front castors.
About this product
The self-propelled version of our rehab shower commode chair. Large rear wheels with handrims let the person move themselves, rather than depending on someone to push.
Why that matters
Bathing and toileting are the two things people most want to do without help. A chair that has to be pushed means someone else is present for the entire routine, every time, including the parts nobody wants company for.
Self-propelling changes that. Someone who can push a wheelchair can get themselves to the bathroom, over the toilet, into the shower and back, in their own time and on their own terms. For a person who is otherwise independent, that difference is considerable.
Where it fits
This suits someone with reasonable arm strength and trunk control, essentially anyone who self-propels a manual wheelchair. If the person needs to be pushed, or cannot hold themselves upright reliably, the attendant version or a tilting model is the safer choice.
Worth checking the bathroom before ordering: self-propelling needs room to turn and enough clear floor beside the toilet, and the larger rear wheels make the chair wider than the attendant version.
Built for water
An aluminum frame that will not corrode under daily exposure to water and soap, with locking castors at the front.
Sizing
Seat width matters as much as on a wheelchair: too narrow pinches the hips, too wide and the person slides with nothing to brace against. Measure across the widest point while seated, or come in and we will measure.
