Shower Commode Chair (Rehab) - 18"
A wheeled shower commode chair with an 18 inch seat, used over the toilet and in the shower so the person transfers once.
Why this one
One transfer per routine
Shower, toilet and drying all happen in one chair, so the person transfers once rather than three or four times.
Aluminum, will not rust
An aluminum frame will not rust under daily exposure to water and soap, unlike a steel bedside commode.
Rolls over the toilet
Rolls over a standard toilet, so the pail is not needed at home and the chair is used directly over the bowl.
Locking castors
Rear-locking castors hold the chair still for transfers and while someone is being washed.
About this product
A wheeled shower commode chair with an 18 inch seat, for someone who needs to be showered and toileted seated rather than transferring onto a shower seat and then a toilet.
One chair for the whole routine
The person transfers into it once, is wheeled to the bathroom, positioned over the toilet, rolled into the shower, dried, and wheeled back. Every transfer removed is a chance to fall removed, and a lift removed for whoever is helping.
That is what separates a rehab shower commode from a bedside commode on castors. This one is built to be pushed with someone in it, into a wet environment, every day.
Built for water
An aluminum frame with rear-locking castors, so nothing rusts under constant exposure to water and soap. That matters more than it sounds: a steel commode used daily in a shower will corrode, and a corroding frame is a structural problem rather than a cosmetic one.
Positioning and access
The frame is designed to roll over a standard toilet so the pail is not needed at home, and the open front gives a carer access for washing and drying without moving the person.
Sizing
This is the 18 inch seat width. Seat width matters here as much as on a wheelchair: too narrow and the person is pinched and pressure builds at the hips, too wide and they slide sideways with nothing to brace against. Measure across the widest point while seated.
We also stock a self-propelled version, a bariatric version, and tilting models for anyone who cannot hold themselves upright. Tell us how the person sits and who is assisting, and we will point you at the right one.
