Padded Commode - Drop Arm
A commode with a cushioned seat and arms that drop away, for longer sitting and sideways transfers.
Why this one
Padded seat
A cushioned seat spreads pressure, which matters for anyone sitting a while or at risk of pressure injuries.
Drop arms for transfers
The armrest drops away, so someone slides across at seat level rather than being lifted over it.
Kinder to fragile skin
Suits someone thin or frail, where a hard seat rim concentrates pressure on vulnerable tissue.
Bedside or over toilet
Works beside the bed with the pail in, and over the toilet with the pail removed.
About this product
A padded commode with drop arms. It combines the two things that matter most for someone spending real time on a commode: a cushioned seat and arms that swing out of the way for transfers.
Padding is not just comfort
A moulded plastic commode seat is fine for a few minutes. For someone who sits considerably longer, whether from constipation, limited mobility, or simply needing time, a hard seat becomes painful and can mark the skin.
That matters most for anyone who is thin, frail, or already at risk of pressure injuries, where the rim of a hard seat concentrates pressure on exactly the tissue that is most vulnerable. Padding spreads it.
Drop arms
A fixed armrest has to be lifted over. A drop arm swings down, so the person slides sideways at seat level from a wheelchair or bed rather than standing or being lifted.
For anyone doing a sliding transfer, or anyone being assisted, this is the feature that decides whether the transfer is manageable.
Using it
The arm should latch positively when raised, so check it is engaged before anyone leans on it. Set the leg height so the feet rest flat with knees at roughly a right angle.
Padded surfaces need wiping down properly rather than just rinsing, and should be checked for splits, since a damaged cover cannot be cleaned reliably.
