Why this one
Three seat heights
Three seat heights from 17 to 22 inches, so the rollator matches the user rather than the other way round.
Nimble indoors
Smaller wheels make it lighter, narrower and much easier to turn in a hallway, lift or shop aisle.
Easier to lift
Lighter to lift into a car than a Type 3, which matters if that happens several times a week.
Know the trade-off
Smaller wheels catch on pavement cracks and gravel, so choose a Type 3 if you are outdoors daily.
Handles adjust too
Handle height adjusts separately and should sit at the crease of your wrist with arms relaxed.
Not a walking frame
Steadies you rather than taking your weight. For weight-bearing support, choose a Type 1 frame.
About this product
The Nexus 1 is Human Care's Type 2 rollator, built for indoor and light outdoor use, in three seat heights.
Seat heights
- Small, SuperLow, 17 inch seat height
- Medium, Regular, around 20 inch seat height
- Large, Standard, 22 inch seat height
Sit on it before choosing. Feet flat on the floor, knees at roughly a right angle. Handle height adjusts separately and should sit at the crease of your wrist with your arms relaxed at your sides.
What Type 2 means
Smaller wheels than a Type 3, usually under 8 inches. That makes the rollator lighter, narrower and much easier to turn in a hallway, a lift or a shop aisle.
The trade is terrain. Smaller wheels catch on pavement cracks, gravel and grass where larger ones roll over them. So if most of your walking is inside the house, around an apartment building, or on smooth flat surfaces, a Type 2 will suit you and will be lighter to lift into a car.
If you are out on pavements and uneven ground every day, look at the Nexus 3 instead.
It is not a walking frame
A rollator steadies you and gives you somewhere to sit. It is not designed to be leaned on heavily, and putting weight on one that is not braked is a common cause of falls.
If you need something to take your weight, a Type 1 walking frame is the safer choice.
Funding
Type 2 rollators appear in the Assistive Devices Program device list, though eligibility depends on clinical criteria and the assessor determines the category.
