Drop arms

Padding
A moulded plastic seat is fine for a few minutes. Longer than that, particularly for someone who is thin, frail, or already at risk of pressure injuries, a hard rim concentrates pressure exactly where the tissue is most vulnerable. A padded seat spreads it.
The trade is cleaning. Padded surfaces need wiping down properly rather than rinsing, and the cover needs checking for splits, because a damaged cover cannot be cleaned reliably and has to be replaced.
Using it
Check the arm latches positively in the raised position before anyone leans on it. Set the leg height so the feet rest flat with knees at roughly a right angle.
Alternatives
