Toilet Safety Rail
A rail that mounts to the toilet giving arms either side, taking no floor space and needing no drilling.
Why this one
No floor space needed
Mounts to the toilet rather than the floor, so it takes no floor space in a narrow bathroom.
Cannot be knocked
Because it is attached to the toilet it cannot drift or be nudged aside when someone leans on it.
No drilling needed
Fixes to the toilet rather than the wall, so no drilling and no permission needed in a rental.
Easier to clean around
Nothing standing on the floor, so there are no legs collecting dust and moisture to clean around.
Adjustable arms
Arm height and width adjust, so the person pushes down with elbows bent and sits comfortably between them.
Check the fixings
Check the fixings when installed and periodically after, since a rail that has worked loose is trusted without thinking.
About this product
A toilet safety rail that mounts to the toilet itself, giving arms either side without standing on the floor or being fixed to a wall.
How it differs from a frame
A floor standing frame surrounds the toilet and rests on the bathroom floor, so it needs clear space either side and can be knocked out of position.
This rail bolts to the toilet, usually under the seat fixings. It takes no floor space at all, which matters in a narrow bathroom, and because it is attached it cannot drift or be nudged aside when someone leans on it.
It is also easier to clean around, since there are no legs standing on the floor collecting dust and moisture.
Where it suits
Narrow bathrooms where a frame will not fit. Rentals and condos, since it fixes to the toilet rather than the wall, so no drilling and no permission needed. And households where the toilet is used by everyone, because the arms are compact and stay out of the way.
Setting it up
Arm height and often width adjust, so set them so the person pushes down with elbows bent rather than straight, and so the arms are wide enough to sit between comfortably.
Because it attaches to the toilet, check the fixings are tight when installed and re-check periodically. A rail that has worked loose is more dangerous than no rail, because it is trusted without thinking.
If the toilet is also too low
A rail gives support, not height. It can be combined with a raised toilet seat if both are needed, which is usually better than buying a very tall seat to compensate for weak legs.
