Soft at a useful height
Most 4 inch raised seats are hard moulded plastic. This one is foam, which makes it the right answer for someone who needs real height but finds a plastic seat uncomfortable: anyone thin or frail, with sensitive skin, or who sits for a while.
Foam spreads pressure instead of concentrating it on the seat edge, and it is warmer to sit on, which matters on a cold morning more than people expect.
Four inches
This raises a standard 15 inch toilet to about 19 inches, above chair height. It suits someone with significant knee or hip restriction, or recovering from hip surgery where the knee must stay below the hip.
If only a little help is needed, the 2 inch version is the better choice and keeps the feet more solidly on the floor.
What it does not do
It gives height, not support. There is nothing to push up from, so if the person needs something to lift themselves with, choose a seat with arms or add a toilet safety frame around the toilet.
Straps on, straps off
Four hook and loop straps hold it to the existing seat. No tools, and it comes off in seconds, so a shared bathroom stays usable and it can travel with someone.
Cleaning
The vinyl cover wipes clean. Check it periodically for splits, since a damaged cover cannot be cleaned reliably and the foam underneath will absorb.
