About this product
The TiLite ZRA is Permobil's flagship rigid titanium chair, and it is built differently from most wheelchairs. Rather than choosing a size from a range, the frame is made to the person's measurements. Permobil calls this TiFit and describes the result as a wheeled prosthetic, which is closer to the truth than it sounds: the chair is dimensioned around one body rather than fitted to it afterwards.
Titanium is the reason the chair can be both light and durable. It has the highest strength to weight ratio of any metal, it does not corrode, and it absorbs vibration in a way aluminum does not, which over rough pavement is felt through the frame and the hands.
The frame is a rigid mono-tube with 1.25 inch tubing. Rigid frames are the lightest and most efficient because they have the fewest parts and nothing that flexes, so more of each push reaches the wheels. The back folds down and the wheels come off for transport, and the frame shape is designed to sit easily on a car seat.
Adjustment
Despite the made to measure frame, the ZRA stays adjustable. The Tru-Fit system uses an infinite adjustment mechanism rather than a row of preset holes, so centre of gravity, camber and back angle can be tuned exactly rather than to the nearest fixed position. Precision Lock handles the caster and back angle adjustments.
