About this product
The TiLite Z is Permobil's aluminum rigid chair, and it replaced the Aero Z in the TiLite range. It shares the approach of its titanium siblings, the ZR and ZRA, but in aluminum, which brings the cost down while keeping the made to measure frame and the rigid layout.
Like the rest of the TiLite line it is a TiFit chair, meaning the frame is built to the person's measurements rather than selected from stock sizes. That is the central idea behind these chairs: the frame is dimensioned around one body, so the chair does not need to be compromised into fitting afterwards.
Rigid frames are the lightest and most efficient because they have the fewest parts and nothing that flexes under load, so more of every push reaches the wheels. The back folds down and the wheels come off, which is how a rigid chair goes into a car.
Choosing between the Z and the ZRA
Aluminum against titanium is the main decision. Titanium is lighter for the same strength and absorbs road vibration better, which is felt over rough ground. Aluminum costs less and is the sensible choice where the extra performance is not worth the difference. The Z also carries a higher maximum capacity, up to 350 lbs with the heavy duty option, than the titanium ZRA.
