Features & Benefits

Why this one

For recovery, not disease

Worn around exercise to help move blood and fluid out of the legs and reduce post-effort heaviness.

Good for standing work

Also suits anyone whose work is spent on their feet, since a long shift leaves the same heavy legs.

Mild and wearable

15-20 mmHg is firm enough to do something and gentle enough to wear for hours comfortably.

Simple sizing

Sized small, medium and large rather than by leg measurement, so it is far simpler to buy.

Two colours, three sizes

Available in black or white, in three sizes, as a unisex sock.

Not a medical garment

For a diagnosed venous condition, the medical lines are the better answer and we will point you at them.

About this product

Sigvaris 401 Athletic Recovery Sock, a 15-20 mmHg unisex sock in black or white, sized small, medium and large.

A different purpose from the rest of this range

Most compression here is worn for tired legs, swelling or venous disease. This one is worn around exercise.

The idea is straightforward: after hard effort, compression helps move blood and fluid out of the legs, which is thought to reduce the heaviness and soreness that follow. Runners, cyclists and anyone doing long training sessions wear them afterwards, and many wear them on the flight or the drive home from an event.

They are also worn by people whose work is physically hard or spent entirely on their feet, which is closer to athletic use than it sounds. Nurses, trades, warehouse and kitchen staff all finish a shift with the same heavy legs a runner has after a long run.

15-20 mmHg

The mild level, which is the right choice for recovery wear. It is firm enough to do something and gentle enough to wear for hours without discomfort.

If you are dealing with a diagnosed venous condition rather than tired legs, the medical lines are the better answer and we will point you at them.

Sizing is by shoe size here

Unlike our medical compression, which is measured by ankle and calf circumference, this athletic line is sized small, medium and large.

That makes it much easier to buy, and it is one reason athletic compression appeals to people who would find a fitting appointment excessive.

Colours and sizes

  • Black: SM (item 24001668), MD (24001666), LG (24001664)
  • White: SM (24001669), MD (24001667), LG (24001665)

Wearing them

Most people wear them after exercise rather than during, and for a few hours at a time. Wash after each wearing and replace when the elastic loses its snap.
