Features & Benefits

Why this one

Prescription level

30-40 mmHg is the firmest compression in general use, prescribed for venous disease and lymphoedema.

Clinical advice first

Should be worn on the advice of a doctor or nurse. At this pressure the wrong garment can cause harm.

Treats the whole leg

A thigh high treats the whole leg, usually specified when swelling extends above the knee.

Silicone grip top

The silicone grip top holds it up without a suspender, so it cannot slide and bunch behind the knee.

Cotton at a firm level

Cotton makes a firm knit far more tolerable against the skin, which affects whether it is actually worn.

Fitting is essential

Must be measured properly in the morning. At this level correct sizing is clinical, not cosmetic.

About this product

Sigvaris 233 Essential Cotton, a 30-40 mmHg thigh high for women with a silicone grip top, in black.

This is a prescription level garment

30-40 mmHg is the firmest compression in general use. It is prescribed for significant venous disease, lymphoedema, severe or persistent swelling, and after certain vein procedures.

It should be worn on the advice of a doctor or nurse, not chosen off a page. At this pressure, compression can cause harm if it is the wrong treatment or the wrong size.

Anyone with poor arterial circulation, diabetes with neuropathy, uncontrolled heart failure, a skin infection or an open wound on the leg must speak to their clinician before wearing compression at any level, and particularly this one.

If you have a prescription or a recommendation, bring it in and we will fit you properly. If you are wondering whether you need this level, speak to your doctor first and we will help afterwards.

Thigh high with a grip top

This is a thigh high rather than a knee high, so it treats the whole leg. That is usually specified when swelling or disease extends above the knee.

The silicone grip top holds the stocking in place without a suspender. That matters at this compression: a firm stocking that slides down bunches behind the knee, and a band of concentrated pressure in one place is exactly what you do not want.

Cotton at a firm compression

Firm knits are the least comfortable to wear, and this level is worn every day for months or years. Cotton makes that considerably more tolerable against the skin, which affects whether the treatment is actually followed.

Fitting is essential

At 30-40 mmHg, correct sizing is not a comfort question but a clinical one. It must be measured properly, in the morning, by someone who knows what they are doing.

Come in and we will measure you. Replace every three to six months, since the elastic tires and the garment stops delivering the pressure it was prescribed for.
