Rotating Bathtub Seat
A bath seat that rotates, so you turn with it rather than twisting your body to get your legs over the tub wall.
Why this one
Turn instead of twist
The seat rotates so you turn with it, rather than twisting your torso against a fixed seat to get your legs over.
Protects the hips
Keeps hips and spine aligned, which is what people are told to protect after a hip replacement.
No floor space needed
Sits entirely inside the tub, so it takes no floor space outside the bath in a small bathroom.
Locks in position
Locks at each position, so the seat holds still while you sit down, wash or stand up.
About this product
A rotating bathtub seat sits inside the bath and turns. You sit down facing outwards, then rotate to face into the tub and bring your legs over as the seat turns, rather than twisting your body against a fixed seat.
The twist is the problem
On a fixed bath seat you sit down, then rotate your torso while lifting your legs over the tub wall. That combination of twisting and lifting is what hurts after a hip replacement, and it is exactly the movement people are told to avoid. It is also very hard with a stiff back, weak trunk muscles or poor balance.
A rotating seat does the turning for you. Your hips and spine stay aligned and your legs travel with the seat.
Where it fits
Unlike a transfer bench, a rotating seat sits entirely inside the tub, so it takes no floor space outside the bath. That matters in a small bathroom where a bench simply will not fit.
The trade is that you still have to lower yourself onto the seat over the tub wall, which is easier than climbing in but harder than sitting down on a bench outside the bath. If that initial sit-down is the difficult part, a transfer bench is the better answer.
Practical points
Make sure the seat locks in each position before putting weight on it, and check the fit in your tub before ordering, since tub widths vary. A handheld shower head is worth adding, as you sit above the waterline.
