Permobil Domus 4 Alternating Pressure Mattress

An alternating pressure and low air loss system with seat inflation and static modes, for medium to high pressure injury risk.

Features & Benefits

Why this one

10 minute cycle

Air cells inflate and deflate on a ten minute cycle, so the areas taking the body's weight change continuously.

Seat inflation mode

Seat inflation supports the person when the bed is raised into the Fowler position, where pressure concentrates on the sacrum.

Static mode for care

A static constant low pressure mode gives an even surface, making repositioning, dressing and personal care much easier.

Set by client weight

Client weight references are printed into the control panel, so firmness is set correctly without guesswork.

Auto-locking panel

The control panel locks after five minutes, so settings cannot be changed accidentally by a visitor or the person in bed.

Static base cells

The bottom cells stay statically inflated, so the surface does not collapse onto the bed base during a power cut or transport.

Can widen to 48 inches

Bolsters and 6 inch firm transfer edges can convert the 36 inch surface to a 48 inch bariatric width if needs change.

Extends to 84 inches

A gap filler extends the length to 84 inches for a taller person, rather than needing a different system.

About this product

The Domus 4 is Permobil's alternating pressure system with low air loss, for people at medium to high risk of pressure injuries. Air cells inflate and deflate on a ten minute cycle so the loaded areas keep changing, while a low air loss design carries moisture away from the skin.

Modes that suit what is actually happening

Most pressure systems alternate and little else. The Domus 4 offers several modes because a bed is used for more than lying still.

Alternating pressure for normal use. Constant low pressure, a static mode giving an even surface, which makes repositioning, dressing and personal care far easier. Max inflate, a firm surface for nursing procedures and transfers. And seat inflation, which supports the person when the bed is raised into the Fowler position, the seated position where pressure concentrates heavily on the sacrum.

Set by weight, then locked

Client weight references are printed into the control panel, so a caregiver can set the correct firmness without guesswork. The panel then locks itself after five minutes, which prevents settings being changed accidentally by a visitor, a cleaner, or the person in the bed leaning against it.

What happens if the power fails

The bottom layer of cells stays statically inflated regardless. If power is lost, or the person is being moved, the surface does not collapse onto the bed base underneath. That is what cell-on-cell construction is for and it is worth confirming on any system you compare.

It can grow with the situation

A gap filler extends the length to 84 inches for a taller person. Bolsters with a full enclosure cover and 6 inch firm transfer edges can convert the 36 inch surface into a 48 inch bariatric width. A version with a 3 inch foam transfer edge is also made, which helps with safe transfers on and off and reduces the risk of falls and entrapment.
