Bariatric Air Mattress System, 42" x 80"
A bariatric alternating pressure and low air loss mattress system 42 inches wide, between a standard and a full bariatric surface.
Why this one
42 inch width
A 42 inch width fits someone too wide for a standard surface without requiring a full 48 inch bariatric bed and the space it needs.
Alternating pressure
Cells inflate and deflate in a cycle, so the areas carrying the body's weight keep changing rather than staying loaded.
Low air loss
A gentle airflow manages heat and moisture at the skin, which is harder to control at higher body weights.
Full replacement depth
Replaces the mattress rather than sitting on top of one, giving the depth needed to avoid bottoming out.
About this product
A bariatric pressure care system 42 inches wide, combining alternating pressure with low air loss. It replaces the mattress rather than sitting on top of one, and sits between a standard 36 inch surface and a full 48 inch bariatric width.
Why 42 inches exists
Bariatric equipment is often treated as one size, and it is not. Someone who is too wide for a standard 36 inch mattress may not need, or have room for, a 48 inch bed. A 42 inch surface fits a person properly without requiring the largest frame, the widest doorways and the floor space that a full bariatric setup demands.
Matching the width to the person matters clinically. If someone is wider than the surface, the edges take load they were not designed for, the cells cannot redistribute pressure properly, and there is a genuine risk of rolling or slipping at the sides.
Depth and bottoming out
Depth allows the body to settle into the surface so pressure spreads over a larger area. This matters more at higher body weights, because a shallow surface simply compresses until the person is resting on the base beneath, which removes the benefit entirely.
The two therapies
Alternating pressure cycles the cells so loaded areas keep changing. Low air loss moves a gentle flow of air through the surface to manage heat and moisture, which is harder to control at higher body weights and around skin folds.
Check the bed frame
A 42 inch mattress needs a frame rated for that width and for the person's weight. A wide mattress on a standard frame is unsafe, so tell us what bed you have and we will confirm the whole arrangement rather than just supplying a surface.
