Bariatric Air Mattress System, 48" x 80"

A bariatric alternating pressure and low air loss mattress system, 48 inches wide and 8 inches deep.

Features & Benefits

Why this one

48 inch width

A full 48 inch bariatric width, so a larger person is properly supported across the surface rather than loading the edges.

8 inch depth

Eight inches of depth allows real immersion, spreading pressure over a larger area instead of compressing onto the base.

Alternating pressure

Cells inflate and deflate in a cycle, so the areas carrying the body's weight keep changing rather than staying loaded.

Low air loss

A gentle airflow manages heat and moisture, which is harder to control at higher body weights and around skin folds.

About this product

A bariatric pressure care system, 48 inches wide and 8 inches deep, combining alternating pressure with low air loss. It replaces the mattress on a bariatric bed frame rather than sitting on top of one.

Why width matters as much as capacity

A pressure care surface only works where the body is actually on it. If a person is wider than the mattress, the edges take load they were never designed to carry, the cells cannot redistribute properly, and there is a real risk of rolling or slipping at the sides. Matching the width to the person is as important as the weight rating.

At 48 inches this is a full bariatric width, and it needs a bed frame to match. Check the frame before ordering, since a wide mattress on a standard frame is unsafe.

Depth and bottoming out

Eight inches of depth allows genuine immersion, so the body settles into the surface and pressure spreads across a larger area. Depth matters more for a heavier person: a shallow surface compresses until the body is effectively resting on the base beneath, which is called bottoming out and removes the benefit entirely.

The two therapies

Alternating pressure cycles the cells so loaded areas keep changing. Low air loss moves a gentle flow of air through the surface to manage heat and moisture, which is particularly relevant at higher body weights where perspiration and skin folds make moisture harder to control.

Getting it right

Bariatric pressure care is a clinical decision and the bed, mattress and any hoist need to work as a set. Contact us with the person's weight, height and the bed frame you have, and we will make sure the whole arrangement is safe rather than just supplying a mattress.
