A bath mat is the cheapest thing in this category and it addresses the surface every other solution stands on. Even with a transfer bench or a bath seat, feet still rest on the tub floor, and a wet tub base is slippery whether or not you are seated.
If someone is standing to shower over a bath, it matters more still.
Using it properly
Suction cups need a clean, smooth, dry surface to hold. Press the mat down firmly across its whole area, and check it is holding before stepping on. Lift and dry it between uses rather than leaving it down permanently, since soap residue underneath reduces the grip and trapped damp encourages mould.
On a textured or non-slip tub base the suction cups may not hold at all. That is worth knowing, because a mat that slides is worse than no mat.
