Features & Benefits

Why this one

Steerable front wheels

The front wheels turn with the handlebars, so the walker goes around corners instead of having to be lifted and repositioned on one leg.

Easier than crutches

Takes the load off shoulders, wrists and hands entirely, and leaves your hands free to carry things, which crutches do not.

350 lb capacity

Rated to 350 lbs on a steel frame, higher than most knee walkers, which are commonly limited to 300 lbs.

Tool-free adjustment

Handle height and knee pad height both adjust without tools, so the setup can be corrected as soon as something feels wrong.

Channelled knee pad

The knee pad is channelled to stop the leg rolling sideways, which keeps the injured limb settled over long periods.

8 inch wheels

Eight inch wheels handle carpet indoors and pavement outside, so one aid covers the whole of your recovery.

Locking hand brakes

Dual hand brakes lock the walker so it holds firm while you stand still or transfer on and off it.

Basket included

A removable basket is included, which solves the problem of carrying anything at all while on crutches.

About this product

A knee walker is for one specific situation: an injury below the knee on one leg, where that leg cannot take weight but the other is fine. A broken foot or ankle, foot surgery, an ulcer, or an amputation below the knee. You rest the injured leg on the padded platform and push along with the good one.

Why not crutches

Crutches work, but they put all the effort through the shoulders, wrists and hands, and they occupy both arms completely. Over the weeks a fracture takes to heal, that gets exhausting, and it means you cannot carry a cup of tea across a room. A knee walker takes the load off the arms entirely and leaves your hands free to steer and carry. Most people who switch mid-recovery wish they had started with one.

Steerable, which matters indoors

The front wheels turn with the handlebars rather than being fixed. That sounds minor and is not. A fixed-wheel knee walker has to be lifted and repositioned to get around a corner, which is exactly the manoeuvre that is awkward on one leg. A steerable one goes round the corner. Eight inch wheels handle both carpet and pavement, so it works indoors and out.

Setting it up

Both the handle height and the knee pad height adjust without tools. Get the pad height right first: your hip and knee should be level and comfortable, not hitched up on one side, because walking lopsided for weeks causes back and hip problems on top of the original injury. The pad is channelled to keep the leg from rolling.

Dual hand brakes lock the walker for standing still and transfers. A removable basket is included, which solves the carrying problem crutches create.
