About this product
The Handicare 1100 has the slimmest rail of any straight stairlift on the market. On a narrow staircase, or in a house where other people still need to use the stairs comfortably, that is the practical reason to choose it. The seat, footrest and armrests all fold, so parked at the top or bottom it takes up very little room.
No gear rack, and why that matters
Most stairlifts drive along a toothed rack, an exposed metal strip that has to be greased and collects dust and dirt over the years. The 1100 uses a friction drive instead, powered by four motors, so the rail is completely enclosed with nothing to grease and nothing for dirt to settle into. Brush heads clean the rail as the lift travels.
The four motor arrangement has a second benefit worth knowing: if one motor fails, the remaining three complete the journey rather than leaving someone stranded partway up.
Charged wherever it stops
The lift charges continuously along the whole rail rather than only at parking points at the top and bottom. So it cannot be left uncharged by being stopped in the middle of the stairs, which is a common and avoidable annoyance on other lifts.
Getting on and off
The seat swivels and locks at the top landing, so you step off facing the landing rather than turning on the stairs. Obstacle sensors on the footrest and carriage stop the lift if anything is in the way, and there is a retractable seat belt, a non-skid footplate, an overspeed governor for the descent and a key lock.
If there is a door at the top or bottom
Two options solve this: Zero Intrusion, designed for staircases with a door at the top or where the rail would be a trip hazard, and Slide Track, which retracts the rail end clear of a doorway. Mention any door near the stairs when we survey.
Capacity
309 lbs on a normal staircase, reducing to 287 lbs on inclines steeper than 46 degrees. Steeper stairs put more load on the drive, so if your staircase is steep and the user is near that limit we will confirm both before quoting.
