About this product
The 1000XXL is the heavy duty version of Handicare's 1000 straight stairlift. It carries 440 lbs, against 350 lbs for the standard model, and the seat is wider and deeper to suit a larger frame rather than simply being rated higher.
Capacity without a bulky track
Heavy duty usually means bulky, and on a staircase that is a genuine problem: a wide track leaves less room for everyone else. The 1000XXL keeps the same slim anodised aluminium track as the standard 1000, intruding only about 4.5 inches into the staircase. Folded, it sits at roughly 12 inches to the footrest.
The track has no exposed gearing, so there is nothing to grease and nothing collecting dust along the stairs.
Seat
Seat depth increases to about 16.75 inches, from 14.25 on the standard model, and the whole seat can be adjusted for height. Seat, footrest and armrests fold up when the lift is parked, keeping the stairs clear for everyone else.
Charging and controls
The lift charges at two park points, one at the top and one at the bottom, so it is ready wherever it was last left. Two remote controls come as standard, which matters in a household where more than one person uses the lift or where someone wants to send it back down. There is a key switch, battery backup so it works during a power cut, and a manual emergency stop.
Options worth discussing
A powered swivel seat turns the chair towards the landing at the top, so you step off facing forwards rather than sideways. A powered hinged track folds the rail end away from a doorway at the bottom. A powered footrest and a body harness are also available where extra support is needed.
