About this product
A step-thru kit cuts an opening in the wall of an existing bathtub and fits a sealed insert, so you walk through the gap instead of climbing over the rim. The bath itself stays where it is.
What it changes
A standard tub wall is somewhere between 14 and 20 inches high. Lifting a leg that high, on one foot, on a wet floor, is the single most dangerous movement in a bathroom. A step-thru opening reduces that to a small step, usually just a few inches.
For a lot of people that is the difference between managing a bath independently and needing help, or giving up baths entirely.
Why this rather than a walk-in tub
A walk-in tub means replacing the bath, which is a full renovation with plumbing, tiling and often days without a working bathroom. It also means sitting in the tub while it fills and drains, because the door cannot open with water behind it.
A step-thru kit is fitted to the bath you already have, in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost, and the bath still works normally for everyone else in the household.
Sizes and fitting
This kit is the 8 by 12 inch size. The correct size depends on the tub and on how high a step the person can manage, so it is measured before ordering.
Fitting involves cutting into the tub wall and sealing the insert, and it must be done properly: a poorly sealed insert leaks into the floor structure, which is expensive and slow to discover. We arrange installation rather than supplying the kit to be fitted by anyone.
