Pushed, not self propelled
A transport chair has four small wheels and no handrims, so the person sitting in it cannot move it themselves. That is the trade. In exchange it is lighter, narrower and easier to fold and lift than a standard wheelchair. If the person can propel themselves even part of the time, a standard wheelchair is the better answer and we will say so.
Built for outside
The outdoor models take pavement joints, kerb cuts and uneven ground better than an indoor chair, which is built narrow and light for corridors and lifts. If the chair will mainly be used around the house or in a care setting, the indoor version will suit better.
Practical details
The back folds down and the frame folds, so the chair packs flat for a car boot. Footrests swing away for transfers and lift off on most models. Armrests are padded, the upholstery is nylon and wipes clean, and rear wheel locks let the attendant hold the chair still while someone gets on or off. A seat belt is included, and most models have a carry pocket on the backrest.
Sizing, and please read this
Seat width should match the person rather than being rounded up. Too wide and someone slides sideways, which makes the chair harder to push straight and less comfortable over a long day.
