Transition Ramp, 5"

A transition ramp for a 5 inch rise, suiting a low step rather than a threshold.

Features & Benefits

Why this one

For a 5 inch rise

Bridges a 5 inch rise, covering shallow front steps, raised patio edges and garage drops.

Odd heights covered

Also suits a total of two very shallow steps combined into one lift, common in older properties.

Steeper than a long ramp

Bridges a fixed height over a short distance, so it is noticeably steeper than a portable ramp.

Know who is pushing

Suits an attendant or a powered chair with torque to climb and brakes to control the descent.

Consider a folding ramp

For someone self-propelling, a 5 foot folding ramp gives a far gentler slope for the same step.

About this product

A transition ramp for a 5 inch rise. This is a low step rather than a threshold, and close to the height of a standard stair.

Where 5 inches comes from

A shallow front step, a raised patio or deck edge, the drop from a house into a garage, or a landing part way up an entrance. Older properties throw up odd heights like this constantly.

It is also a common total where two very shallow steps have been combined into one lift.

Understand the gradient

A transition ramp bridges a fixed height over a short distance. That makes it steeper than a portable ramp covering the same rise, which spreads it over several feet.

At 5 inches the difference becomes significant. This suits someone being pushed by a capable attendant, or a powered chair or scooter with the torque to climb and brakes to control the descent.

For someone self-propelling, a 5 foot portable folding ramp gives a far gentler slope for the same step and is usually the better answer. We stock both, and we will tell you honestly which suits.

Measuring

Measure from the lower surface to the top of the step. Accuracy matters: a ramp sized for 5 inches on a 6 or 7 inch step leaves a lip at the top, which reintroduces exactly the obstacle you were removing.

Fitting

It must sit square, fully supported along its length, with no rocking and no movement when a wheel goes onto it. Check the width suits the doorway and the chair, particularly a powered chair or scooter, which are wider than a manual chair.
