Transition Ramp, 1" to 3"
A threshold ramp bridging a rise of 1 to 3 inches, covering most doorway lips and door tracks.
Why this one
Covers 1 to 3 inches
Bridges a 1 to 3 inch lip, the range that covers most doorway thresholds and sliding door tracks.
Small lips stop chairs
An inch is enough to stop a castor dead, halting the chair while the person keeps moving forward.
Fits several doorways
One ramp across a range suits a house with several thresholds of slightly different heights.
Moves with you
Not cut to one measurement, so it can move to another door or go with the person to a new home.
Works with a longer ramp
Also used at the foot of a longer ramp, where it meets the ground and the surface changes.
About this product
A transition ramp for a rise between 1 and 3 inches. It bridges the lip at a doorway, a sliding door track, or the edge where one surface meets another.
Small lips, real problems
An inch does not sound like much until a castor hits it. The wheel stops, the chair stops, and the person keeps moving forward. At best that is a jolt, at worst a tip out of the chair.
Coming the other way, dropping off a lip gives a jarring bump at the moment the chair is carrying most speed.
The same edge catches a walker wheel or a toe. If someone has started avoiding a particular doorway, this is very often why.
Adjustable across a range
Covering 1 to 3 inches in one ramp is useful because thresholds are rarely a round number, and a house often has several of slightly different heights.
It also means the ramp can move to another doorway later, or go with the person if they move house, rather than being cut to one measurement.
Where it is used
Patio and balcony doors, which nearly always have a raised track. Front door thresholds. Between rooms where flooring changes. And at the foot of a longer ramp where it meets the ground.
Measuring
Measure from the lower surface to the top of the lip. If the rise is over 3 inches, we stock 4, 5 and 6 inch versions, and above that a portable folding ramp is the right answer.
Check the width of the doorway too, since the ramp needs to sit square and fully supported rather than overhanging.
