R82 Mustang Gait Trainer

A children's gait trainer that sets up either in front of or behind the child, so one frame follows them as their walking develops.

Features & Benefits

Why this one

Anterior or posterior

The same frame sets up anterior or posterior, so a child who progresses changes the configuration rather than needing new equipment.

Four sizes, ages 1 to 18

Four sizes cover roughly ages one to eighteen, with weight limits from 66 lbs on size one to 176 lbs on size four.

Chest support centres

Chest support holds the child in the centre of the frame and adjusts for both height and width as they grow.

Full support range

Arm prompts, hip support with saddle, leg and head supports, torso belt and pommel build the frame up or strip it back as needs change.

Brakes on all wheels

All four wheels have brakes, with an anti-reverse stop that locks and releases so the frame cannot roll backwards.

Tunable wheels

A directional stabiliser and adjustable wheel tension tune how much the frame resists and how firmly it tracks straight.

4 or 8 inch castors

Castors come in 4 or 8 inch, so the frame can be set up for smooth indoor floors or for rougher ground outside.

Folds and travels

The centre bar is angle adjustable and the frame is light and folds, so it moves between home, school and therapy easily.

About this product

The Mustang is a gait trainer rather than a simple walker, and what sets it apart is that it works in both configurations. The same frame can be set up anterior, in front of the child, or posterior, behind them.

Why that matters

The two positions suit different stages. Anterior is for a child who cannot yet take all their own weight through their feet, or whose motor control needs support around the trunk and pelvis. The frame in front gives something to lean into, and it stimulates active extension and stepping forward. Posterior suits a child further along, with better trunk stability and able to bear their weight, and it lets them get close up to tables, sinks and other children rather than having a frame in the way.

Because one frame does both, a child who progresses does not need new equipment. The setup changes instead. That is worth a great deal over the years a gait trainer is in use.

Support that comes off as it is no longer needed

Chest support positions the child in the centre of the frame and adjusts for height and width. Arm prompts, hip support with saddle, leg supports, head support, torso belt and pommel are all available, so the frame can be built up for a child who needs a great deal of support and stripped back as they need less.

Sizes and wheels

Four sizes cover roughly ages one to eighteen, with user weight limits from 66 lbs on the smallest to 176 lbs on the largest, and each size has its own frame colour. Castors come in 4 or 8 inch, and all four wheels have brakes with an anti-reverse stop that can be locked and released. A directional stabiliser and adjustable wheel tension let the resistance and tracking be tuned to the child.

Fitting

A gait trainer must be fitted by a therapist. The critical measurements are floor to axilla, hip height from floor and hip width. Contact us to arrange an assessment.
