QRamp Transition Plate (M6)

A plate that bridges the lip where a ramp meets ground or threshold, so nothing catches a castor.

Features & Benefits

Why this one

Removes the lip

Bridges the lip where the ramp meets ground or threshold, so castors are not stopped dead by an edge.

Prevents tipping forward

A lip stops a castor while the person keeps moving forward, which is how a chair tips.

Smooth coming down

Also smooths the descent, so there is no jolt at the moment the chair has most momentum.

Handles door thresholds

Handles raised door thresholds, which often defeat a ramp that has otherwise solved the steps.

Sized to the job

Size depends on the height being bridged and the surface at each end, so it is specified with the layout.

About this product

A transition plate bridges the gap where the ramp meets the ground or a door threshold, so there is no lip to catch a wheel.

A small part that decides whether a ramp works

A ramp can be the right length, the right slope and properly installed, and still be unusable because of a half inch lip at the bottom.

Small castors are the problem. The front castors on a wheelchair are typically three to eight inches across, and a lip stops them dead. The chair halts, the person keeps moving forward, and a tip is a real possibility. Walker wheels and scooter castors behave the same way.

It also matters going the other way. Coming down a ramp onto a lip means a jolt at the moment the chair has most momentum.

Where they are used

At the bottom of the run, where the ramp meets a path, driveway or lawn edge. And at the top, where it meets a door threshold, since thresholds are often raised by an inch or more.

Door thresholds catch people out particularly. A ramp that solves the steps can still leave someone unable to get through the door because of the threshold itself.

Part of a designed layout

Transition plates are specified with the rest of the ramp, since the size needed depends on the height difference being bridged and the surface at each end.

Tell us about the ground at the bottom and the threshold at the top, and we will include the right plates in the layout.
