Portable Ramp, 3ft

A 3 foot ramp for a rise of about 3 inches, between a threshold ramp and a step ramp.

Features & Benefits

Why this one

For a 3 inch rise

Suits a rise of about 3 inches, covering thick doorsills, raised patio edges and shallow garage steps.

Between threshold and step

Fills the gap between a threshold ramp and a step ramp, where 2 feet is too short and 6 feet excessive.

Easier to handle

Lighter and less bulky than a longer ramp, so it is easier to live with and more likely to be used.

Not for a normal step

On a normal 7 inch step this gives about 1 in 5, more than twice the recommended gradient.

About this product

A 3 foot portable ramp. It suits a rise of about 3 inches, which covers a tall threshold, a shallow step, or a vehicle with a low floor.

Where 3 feet is the right length

At the recommended slope of one foot of ramp per inch of rise, 3 feet handles roughly a 3 inch rise.

That is the gap between a threshold and a proper step: a thick doorsill, a raised patio edge, a shallow garage step, or the lip at the back of a van. Too much for a 2 foot ramp, not enough to need a 6 foot one.

Still not a step ramp

A standard step is 6 to 8 inches. On a 7 inch step this ramp gives a slope of about 1 in 5, which is more than twice the recommended gradient.

That is hard work to push up and genuinely difficult to control coming down, particularly with an occupant in the chair. If you are dealing with a step, look at the 6 foot ramp or longer.

Why not just buy longer anyway

Because a longer ramp is heavier, bulkier to store and more awkward to set up. If your rise is 3 inches, a 3 foot ramp is easier to live with and you are more likely to actually use it.

The rule is to match the ramp to the rise, in both directions.

Before ordering

Measure the rise from the ground to the top surface. Check the ramp width suits your chair, and that the capacity covers the person, the chair and anything carried.
