Welcome to Help Mobility!

Invacare Alber e-fix E35 Power Assist

An add-on drive that turns a manual wheelchair into a joystick-driven powered one, and uncouples so the chair can still be pushed.

Features & Benefits

Why this one

Joystick driven

Converts a manual wheelchair into a joystick-driven powered chair, rather than amplifying your own pushing.

Two chairs in one

The drive wheels uncouple with a handle, so the chair reverts to being pushed or self-propelled whenever you want.

User or attendant control

The joystick mounts for the occupant or on a push handle for an attendant, so either can do the driving.

Tool-free removal

Everything comes off without tools, the battery lifts out at around 2 kg, and the chair then folds as normal.

Motors in the hubs

Motors hide inside the wheel hubs, so the chair keeps the look of a manual rather than becoming visibly powered.

Magnetic charger plug

The charger uses a self-guiding magnetic plug rather than a connector that has to be lined up by hand.

Mobility app

The Alber mobility app reports distance, battery, speed and other data, and shows call notifications on the joystick screen.

Fits most manual chairs

Bracket sets fit a wide range of manual wheelchairs, and the brackets themselves weigh only about 700 grams.

About this product

The Alber e-fix works differently from push-assist systems. Rather than amplifying your pushes, it converts a manual wheelchair into a joystick-driven powered one. Motors are concealed inside the wheel hubs, a compact battery mounts under the seat, and a small joystick sits on the armrest.

So this is for someone who cannot propel far, or at all, but does not want a full power wheelchair. You keep your own chair, with the seating and dimensions already fitted to you, and gain powered driving.

Two chairs in one

The drive wheels uncouple with a handle, and the chair reverts instantly to being pushed by hand or self-propelled on the handrims. That flexibility is the point. Powered for the shops and the pavement, manual for a tight room or when the battery is flat.

User or attendant

The joystick can be mounted for the person in the chair or on a push handle for whoever is pushing. If a caregiver does most of the driving, that changes what the system is for and is worth deciding at fitting rather than afterwards.

Taking it apart

Everything comes off without tools. The wheels quick-release, the battery lifts out, and what remains folds like an ordinary manual chair. The battery is around 2 kg, so it can be carried separately and charged indoors using a self-guiding magnetic plug rather than a connector that has to be lined up.

Connected

The Alber mobility app shows distance travelled, remaining battery, speed and other data on a phone, and can display call and message notifications on the joystick screen.

Fitting and capacity

Bracket sets exist for a wide range of manual wheelchairs, and the brackets themselves weigh only about 700 g. User weight capacity on this E35 is 264 lbs, with a maximum combined weight of 375 lbs including the chair and the drive. The heavier duty E36 raises that to 350 lbs with stronger motors. Bring your chair in and we will confirm what fits.
