Type 1 Manual Wheelchairs
Standard folding manual wheelchairs in a range of seat widths, for everyday mobility indoors and out.
Type 1 is the Ontario Assistive Devices Program classification for a standard manual wheelchair: a folding, self-propelled or attendant-pushed chair for someone who needs a wheelchair for everyday mobility but does not require a custom seating system or a specialised frame.
Fit matters more than features. Seat width should match the person, not the chair that happens to be in stock, because a chair that is too wide makes propelling harder and encourages poor posture, while one that is too narrow causes pressure at the hips. Seat depth, back height and seat-to-floor height all affect how comfortably and safely someone sits.
If you are buying for the first time, or replacing a chair that never quite fit, come into the showroom and we will measure properly and set the chair up before it leaves with you.
