Who a stool suits
Someone who feels unsteady standing in the shower but can sit and rise unaided, and who has reasonable balance while seated. If that describes the situation, a stool does the job without taking up the space a chair does.
It is the right choice in a small cubicle, where a chair with arms simply will not fit, and where the seat needs to be lifted out between uses because others use the shower too.
When to choose something else
If washing hair is the difficult part, choose a chair with a back. Tilting the head back with eyes closed is when balance is lost, and a stool gives nothing to rest against.
If standing up from a low seat is hard, choose a chair with arms. There is nothing to push up from on a stool, so the person has to rise using their legs alone on a wet surface.
Both are worth the extra if either applies. A stool that is not quite enough support is not a saving.
Setting it up
Adjust the legs so the feet rest flat with the knees at roughly a right angle, and check all four are set the same and locked. Non-slip tips grip the shower floor.
