About this product
The Manatee is R82's bathing chair for children, and it is a clinical positioning product rather than a bath seat. It holds a child anywhere between fully upright and lying back, so a parent can wash with both hands.
Sitting or lying, adjusted independently
The back and the leg rest adjust separately, by pulling a strap or pressing a button. That means the position can be set for the child rather than chosen from two or three fixed options: upright for an older child who sits well, reclined towards supine for a child with no head or trunk control.
Being able to change it easily matters, because the right position for washing hair is not the right position for washing a body.
It grows with the child
The seat depth adjusts, which is what extends the useful life of the chair. Children outgrow equipment fast, and depth adjustment means the same Manatee fits for years rather than being replaced.
Sizes run from size 0 upwards, suiting children from around one year old through to teenagers and small adults depending on the size chosen.
Support built around the child
It comes standard with height adjustable lateral support cushions, which double as head support or trunk support depending on where they are set, and a hip belt.
Further supports are available: a pommel cushion to keep the legs apart, leg straps for precise leg control, and a torso belt. So the chair can be built up for a child with complex needs and simplified as they develop.
Practical for the parent
It is light and folds compactly for storage or transport, which matters in a family bathroom that other people also use. The frame is rust resistant with non-skid padding on the legs so it stays put when wet.
Frames are available separately: a height adjustable rolling frame for shower use, and a larger frame shaped to sit in most tubs, both of which save a parent kneeling on a bathroom floor.
